The National College for Teaching and Leadership has designated around 600 Teaching Schools across the country. These Teaching Schools develop an alliance with other schools to provide high quality training, development and support to new and experienced teachers. Teaching Schools have an important role to play in a school-led system and school improvement. Teaching Schools will be centres of excellence, taking a more focused role which prioritises:
Macmillan Academy has a longstanding commitment to teacher training and development and we were delighted to be designated as a Teaching School in June 2017. We see our Teaching School alliance as having three main priorities: to improve entry to the teaching profession, to improve the current workforce of teachers and improve schools by the sharing of best practice. Fundamentally, children should benefit from our Teaching School alliance with the ultimate objective being to raise educational outcomes.
We have developed an alliance of like-minded schools who share a passion for improving teaching and learning. It is a deliberately diverse group of schools and combining the best practice in each school will provide a rich partnership with enhanced capacity for school improvement.
Within our alliance we expect each school to both offer support and to also receive support.
